The inimitable Eric Carle

Is there anyone out there who knows children's books and does not immediately recognize the work of master illustrator Eric Carle? Unlikely. And the arrival of a new book with his vibrant collage illustrations is always reason to drop everything and read. Here is THE ARTIST WHO PAINTED A BLUE HORSE by Carle (Philomel 2011), Carle's tribute to German painter Franz Marc whose outlandish paintings of animals, mostly horses, in unconventional colors, is celebrated in the simple text and incredible collages that are the hallmark of Carle's work. <532>

  1. I absolutely love Eric Carle! He is an author I would greatly enjoy meeting. Even my little ones recognize his books later in the year, before I tell them who the author is. Looking forward to adding this to my collection, thank you for the info!

  3. I am crazy about Eric Carle and so glad that there is another one to add to our family collection. My kids have spent their early years memorizing Carle's books. I love that his illustrations are unmistakably his and that children everywhere already know who the author is and that they are going to love the book!

  5. I love his artwork. I read "Papa Please Get the Moon for Me" to my second graders and they really enjoyed it. They were studying the phases of the moon and were able to make the connection between the fiction and nonfiction.

  6. Very excited to see another Eric Carle book! I can see reading this book to my Kindergarten students and then letting them paint their own blue horse. It would be great to use when learning that color/color word. Can't wait!

  8. I love, love, love Eric Carle! Who doesn't? Our teachers grab one of his books and decorate there rooms by it, they have thematic lessons by it, and explore the arts with their children by it. Color and imagination is pulled from each page as lessons are learned. I love having his books in my library on display!

  10. Yeah! Another Eric Carle is wonderful. I am at the MS level, but there are many students that still love to read his books. This one looks like it could be used at the MS level for a great art booktalk.
