Celebrate Picture Book Month

If you think you are seeing a lot of picture books of late, it is because November is Picture Book Month. I enjoy having time to plow through all of these lovely books for children. They are quick reads but extremely satisfying, too. Hope you enjoy looking at the incredible work of artist and author. And, once again, I am writing short blog haikus for each book: blaikus.

  1. I think picture books are great at any level. There is so much teaching potential in many of these books. I recently read Thanksgiving by Brenda Haugen to my third graders and made a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast how Thanksgiving was celebrated in the past and present. I made my venn diagram look like a turkey and the kids had a blast with it. It was fun learning for them.

  4. I love picture books. I enjoy reading the books to my Pre-Kinder and Kinder groups. They especially enjoy the illustrations. I wish I could read more picture books in other grade levels.

  5. Love the use of blaikus to review the books. Splish, Splash, Splat! looks like a fun book. There is something magical and even poetic about the cover for Sea of Dreams. I am definitely getting this book.

  6. Thanks for the tip Sarah, The Perfect Christmas sounds like a book that could also be used to compare and contrast the different ways that Christmas is celebrated.
