HAMPIRE by Sudipta Bardham-Quallen with illustrations by Howard Fine (Harper 2011) is the story of a pig who is rumored to be a vampire. Hampire prowls the night. One evening, a hapless duck is followed by Hampire. Duck takes refuge with some other farm animals in an old shed. There, they make an interesting discovery about Hampire. <608>
Anne Rockwell gives readers a glimpse into the preparations for FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL Harper 2011, illustrations by Lizzy Rockwell). Haircuts, new shoes, backpacks, supplies: there is much to do to get ready for that all important first day. <609>
CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG by Ree Drummond (Harper 2011) is a humorous look at the life of a working dog named Charlie. There is a new dog on the ranch, and Charlie wants to show her the ropes. Sometimes, though, Charlie finds himself being helped more by Suzie. Great illustrations and a glimpse into what "chores" dogs can perform on the ranch. <610>
BECAUSE by Richard Torrey (Harper 2011) visits that age old answer "WHY?" with that less than informative "BECAUSE." Why is Jack covered in band-aids? Why are there handprints of mud all over the door? Jack has an answer that extends beyond because. Warmly funny. <611>

ReplyDeleteAs I was reading the short summary of each I really enjoyed all of them. The one I liked the most was HAMPIRE! The book itself was very attractive as well. Can't wait to read that book to my younger students.
Will look forward to read Charlie - I love the recipes that Ree Drummond writes, now we'll see about the books! :)
ReplyDeleteSo many books about dogs out there, my daughter would love these. Also, I like the books about the first days of school and preparing the students for it. So many ideas out there as I prepare to become a librarian some day. Can't wait to see the rest of the Kindergators series.
ReplyDeleteKindergators seems like a great series for teachers to read aloud to kindergarteners to help them learn how to behave appropriately in school.

My next book purchase will be Kindergators and First Day of School. First Day of School can be a great book to read to my Kinder kids on their first day and Kindergators can be read to help reinforce behavior and classroom rules.
ReplyDeleteCharlie the Ranch Dog looks like a cute book that young readers will like. Hampire sounds like an interesting story--a pig who may be a vampire? I'd like to see how this story turns out.
ReplyDeleteA new book from Rosmary Wells! Kindergators sounds like a great series for younger students to learn porper behavior. I want to read Hampire, that sounds like a neat twist for younger readers.
ReplyDeleteI want them all! Kindergators will reinforce behavior in a classroom which especially important at that age since they are still fairly new to school rituals. First Day of School will help ease worries in those first few days of school when the students are always nervous. They all seem like books that can be reread many times and students will always enjoy them!.
