Mothers and Grandmothers

WORKING MUMMIES by Joan Horton with illustrations by Drazen Kozjan (FSG, July 2012) is a bouncy poetic story about mummies and all of the occupations they have on top of taking care of their ghouls and boys. Some mummies are caterers, dentists, and authors. No matter what, they always have time for their families. <106>

MOM, IT'S MY FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN! by Hyewon Yum (FSG, July 2012) is about the excitement and apprehension about the first day of school for a young boy and his mother. The illustrations work well to emphasize the ups and downs (literally) of the first momentous day of school. <107>

GRANNY LAMBY AND THE SECRET HANDSHAKE by Kate and M. Sarah Klise (Holt, July 2012) is about Larry's rocky relationship with his Granny Lamby. She wears big fancy hats and sings at the top of her lungs and, generally, causes Larry embarrassment. One day, however, Larry comes to understand how important Granny Lamby is in his life.

  4. The book's cover is already reveling what will happen in this story. Mom looks worried about he son's first day. The little boy on the other hand looks very excited and looks like he can't wait to get to school.
